Design Your Pool & Backyard Space

Are you thinking about designing your backyard space with a pool but are having trouble picturing it? There are a few things to consider before you contact a landscaper or a pool installation company. Here are a few tips when imagining your property with a pool.

  • When you design your pool you obviously need to consider the size of your yard. If you have a smaller lot you can still have a pool. Consider the scale or proportion the pool should be to look good integrated into the current landscape design.

  • The shape of your pool can be chosen depending on the style you are going for. Modern themes look great with clean linear lines such as a Full L , a Rectangle Squarebox or a Lazy L shape. For an informal look, you may want to consider curved lines such as an Odyssey II, a Muskoka, a Lagoon or a Kidney Crescent shaped pool.

  • The stye of coping you choose will also influence the final look of your pool. Cantilever or Bullnose coping are the most popular.

  • Colour has the most visual impact when designing your pool and backyard space, so your choice of liner will make a statement. Consider the shade of blue the water will look once it reflects the sky colour. For example, sometimes a sandy coloured liner will give your water a more turquoise look than a blue liner.

  • The texture around the perimeter of your pool deck will also add style to your backyard space. Some like the look of sleek white concrete while others prefer the added texture of a stamped concrete deck.

  • Accessories such as lights, jump-rocks, diving-boards, slides built-in ledges and water features also need to be decided.

  • Lighting will set the atmosphere as the sun sets. Some like coloured lights, some prefer white. Some pools look better with more lighting around the inside of the walls and some look better with a couple of larger lights on the ends.

  • Jump-rocks, platforms and diving boards are individual tastes and should match the style you have chosen. Some jump-rocks are sleek and simple while others included several ledges and stones. An experienced landscaper and pool designer will prove invaluable when making these decisions.

As you can see there is a lot to think about. Whatever you decide, a master pool installer will be an asset in working with you to design the pool you are envisioning within your back yard.
